The Secret Circle Interviews

Hear the cast and crew tell you about The Secret Circle TV Show.

Andrew MillerWere you wondering what the deal was with the death of Nick? Well you’re not alone. Executive Producer Andrew Miller was interviewed by Tierney Bricker of eonline.com about the death of Nick and what happens with the Coven now.

When did you make the decision to kill off Nick (Louis Hunter)?
From the beginning. I’m learning at the feet of the master [Kevin Williamson]. The reality is, we had this show about a group of people connecting with one another in order to achieve great things. It felt like you couldn’t fully understand what that meant without breaking that connection somehow. It just felt that for the stakes of the show, what would separate it from other shows in the past, was doing something like this…we’re binding the circle, binding together six people stronger, but the world of our show has to be a world where the danger they find themselves in, the danger that bonds them and the danger that finds them, is enough to stop them. So, it was really important to us from the very beginning to establish those rules.

For fans of the book, us included, Nick was definitely a favorite. Were you nervous about killing such a popular character?
Yeah…I’m nervous about killing anybody, but particularly a character that people like. I think at the heart of the books was the idea of kids getting involved in something that they shouldn’t be. It just felt that in order to sustain that idea over the course of season after season, you just really needed to establish the stakes. We didn’t want to make a show where at the end of every week, everything would be OK [or] they could just kind of crinkle their nose and make everything better. We wanted to show that there were risks and they couldn’t just run around amok with power…they had to be careful. There are consequences to every action, and with these guys, because their actions are so much more heightened, you just have to also heighten those consequences.

MelissaIt’s was pretty obvious at the end of The Secret Circle episode 3 – Heather that Melissa now had the demon inside her and was possessed. Jessica Parker Kennedy who play Melissa in The Secret Circle spoke with Hollywoodlife.com about tonights episode and how it’s a real game changer.

Yeah, let’s talk about Nick. Jessica jokes that Nick has a “James Dean image,” but it turns out the two might have more in common than just their pouty looks and shared affinity for leather jackets. Fans are abuzz with speculation that Nick will be [POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT] killed off during this week’s episode.”

Hopefully Faye will be there to get Melissa through this hard time and will Cassie blame herself if Nick does die. Afterall, it was her and Faye that freed Heather.

charles meadeGale Harold let us in on what’s going on inside Charles Meade’s head in the Secret Circle in an interview with ew.com.

ew.com: Charles told his daughter Diana that he was dating Dawn to explain why they were spending so much time together. Charles seemed more okay with that lie than Dawn did when he told her about it. Should we read into that? Will it be addressed again?
Gale Harold: I don’t know. The way that scene played to me, it’s sort of like Charles is just trying to cover his tracks, and the thing that made the most sense was to use that as the reason — there’s something going on between the two of them. He was kinda caught. Diana called him out. I think in his mind, there’s wishful thinking. That’s one of the things I really like, him having to react on the spot and just make it up as he goes along. It’s one of those moments where your excuse makes it worse. [Laughs] Now Diana has all these expectations.

ew.com: Everyone loves how “creepy” you can be. Are you ever asked to tone it down on this show?
Gale Harold: There’s always that part of it. What you see and what was done is hopefully very different things. It’s not always the case, but it’s a good thing to go big early so that you can pull it back, and then you get something that’s full of the intention, the power, and the energy of what you’re trying to do without being too big. You can always be pulled back, but if you don’t go big in the first place, there’s really nothing to work with. And when I say big, it could just be increments of very subtle things. It hasn’t happened a lot because for Charles, he has to be really, really contained. because, like I said before, everything he does is a potential giveaway. He doesn’t know who knows what he’s up to … For instance, my character on Queer As Folk, he kind of invaded every room, whereas Charles is much more on the peripheral. He’s more of a looker. He’s like a spy as opposed to [Laughs] the barnstormer that Brian Kinney was.

This was an awesome interview and Gale Harold hinted at a few things which will be coming up. If you want to read the full interview and find out more about Gale Harold, Charles meade and The Secret Circle the click here.

What Drew Thomas Dekker to The Secret Circle

by Lauren on September 29, 2011 - 0 comments

thomas Dekker The Secret Circle Find out what drew Thomas Dekker to the role of Adam Conant in The Secret Circle and more in this interview with zap2it.com.

He was drawn to his “Secret Circle” role of Adam Conant because the character has the kind of “duality” he always looks for in a role.

“It’s interesting to play this very masculine, very ‘American’ strong guy who is trying to keep order in this group and is not out so much for himself,” Dekker says. “He’s a simple guy from a simple town, but on top of that he is very in tune with these abilities and powers he was born with, and in order to conduct those properly, you have to be in tune with nature. You have to be gentle and spiritual and sensitive, so there were two opposing things there that you don’t often see in television, particularly in male roles.”

A Quick Chat With Britt Robertson

by Lauren on September 22, 2011 - 0 comments

Britt RobertsonBritt Robertson who plays the lead character Cassie Blake, in The Secret Circle TV show, answered a few question for zap2it.com

Q: This isn’t your first TV series, but it’s your first full-blown lead. How is that working out for you?
A: I didn’t really know what I was in for. In addition to just working crazy hours, we also have to do special effects, which extends the whole process and makes it a bit more difficult — but at the same time, it’s such a cool aspect. It’s what makes the show so exciting for me, and it challenges me on a regular basis.

Q: Did you read the books by L.J. Smith that inspired this TV show?
A: I wasn’t sure what I could get from reading the books, but I wanted to learn as much about my character as possible. There was a lot about that I could get from the book, but a lot that is different as well. I just mainly used that as a character base, but I also just enjoyed it. It’s quite a fun read.

Q: What was it about Cassie that resonated with you personally?
A: When you first meet her, she is just a regular high-school kid. Then she gets thrown into this situation that completely throws her off guard, and she has to adapt to this new “family” that she creates within the secret circle. There’s nothing particularly crazy about my own life, so it wasn’t a stretch to imagine how Cassie, as an outsider, would react to all the new strangeness she is having to deal with.

faye chamberlain the secret circleomg.yahoo.com caught up with Phoebe Tonkin who plays resident bad girl Faye Chamberlain from The Secret Circle TV Show on the CW.

The Secret Circle’s Faye may be labeled the show’s resident bad girl, but star Phoebe Tonkin insists that’s she just misunderstood. “She’s not really evil; she’s just misguided and pushes people to their limits without realizing what the consequences would be,” Tonkin tells TVGuide.com. “And she’s not trying to hurt anyone; she’s bored, and she likes doing magic.”

“Faye’s mother is not the most ‘good’ character on the show, and that’s the only kind of mentor that she’s had growing up,” Tonkin says. “There’s a bit of a power struggle between the two of them when Faye starts realizing her mom isn’t who she seems. There’s going to be a bit of a moral dilemma and she’ll either rebel or join forces with her.”

Tonkin says that Faye has very different relationships with each of the literally powerful young women on the show. “Melissa is her sidekick,” Tonkin says. “She’s very used to bossing Melissa around and doing what she tells her, but as we delve into the series, Melissa is going to start getting a bit more confident.” Tonkin calls Diana, who Faye has known since they were toddlers, the complete opposite of her and labels her the “goody-goody” of the group. “All of the other characters are concerned with the power and responsibilities and Faye can’t understand why no one else realizes that we’re these 16-year-old kids with witch powers. How is that not the coolest thing in the world?”

While the initial episodes focus on the witches fine-tuning their capabilities, Tonkin says the series will eventually delve into the circle’s connections to the past. “There are people that want this power stripped from us and we’ll see what the older generation of witches’ intentions are. There’s a whole backstory about what happened to the parents who died when we were really young,” she says. “Everyone’s going to change sides. The characters you think are good may end up being bad and the bad may turn good.”

Diana Meade The Secret CircleShelley Hennig (who plays witch Diana Meade) from The Secret Circle spoke with SheKnow.com about the show and her character.

SheKnows: Fans were introduced to the Circle/coven and your character (Diana) pretty fast in the premiere. What can we expect in the upcoming episodes?
Shelley Hennig: It definitely gets darker and sexier. You will always be wanting to know what happens in the next week. We as the actors feel the same way — we finish an episode and can’t wait to get the next script to figure out what’s going to happen next. There’s also some love triangles — there’s the Adam (Thomas Dekker), Cassie and Diana love triangle. It gets really interesting and really complicated, because Diana and Cassie become really good friends, so it’s a little awkward.

SheKnows: We haven’t seen much of Diana’s relationship with Adam (Thomas Dekker) yet…
Shelley Hennig: Diana is really intuitive and she fears something is happening between Adam and Cassie –something that they can’t control.

SheKnows: Diana seems to be the voice of reason and takes a liking to Cassie, but does she really care about Cassie or does she have a bigger motive in mind where the Circle is concerned?
Shelley Hennig: Diana really does like Cassie. I do believe that there is a bigger motive as to why Diana, or anybody, wants the Circle being bound. I think that’s what’s interesting about this show. You don’t necessarily know the real reason why each person in the Circle actually wants to bind it — or doesn’t want to bind it. I think there are some secrets for sure.

SheKnows: Are there going to be moments coming up where we see Diana lose control?
Shelley Hennig: That will be interesting. Diana will definitely change. I think she’s on a path right now for sure.

Kevin WilliamsonProducer Kevin Williamson talked with Collider.com about The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle. Since these are really his babies, common he pretty much rewrote The Vampire Diaries and he co-wrote The Secret Circle script, there’s no one else who could probably tell us more about what’s to come in The Secret Circle.

Will The Secret Circle eventually be an inter-generational war?
WILLIAMSON: Yeah. There is this idea of what happened 16 years ago, that chased Cassie’s mother from this town. What was so horrific? As our new Circle tries to uncover that, for fear of their own future, a lot of those discoveries do go inter-generational. We have the Dawn and Charles Circle, but we also have Jane, who is Cassie’s grandmother, who has her own Circle. So, there is this generational aspect, if you look at the hidden mythology. It’s a world of villainy, where you may not like what they are doing or agree with the villains, but if we do our job right, you will understand them and understand why they are doing what they are doing. Hopefully, it will resonate in an emotional way, along with the thrills and fun. [click to continue…]

Gale Harold as Charles Meade The Secret CircleGale Harold who plays Charles Meade in The Secret Circle talked with Tvfanatic about his role and how things will develop.

“The bad guy villain gets really boring very quickly, but if you’re that bad while being perceived to be that good, everywhere you look there’s a potential disaster,” said Harold, who equates his character’s mission to that of juggling tables in a five star restaurant with a roomful of critics. “If you drop one thing, the entire night can go out the window, so it’s interesting because I have to maintain a certain persona in public and in society but that’s not really what I want. It’s a means to an end. There is a very serious power grab going on — where my character is, at least in the beginning — trying to reignite something through our children that we tried to do ourselves that went horribly wrong. But I’m really still figuring things out.”

Jessica Kennedy Parker on Being a Witch

by Lauren on August 30, 2011 - 0 comments

Jessica Kennedy Parker The Secret CircleWho would have thought it would be so hard to become a witch. Well according to Jessica Kennedy Parker, who plays a member of the coven called Melissa in The Secret Circle, it ain’t easy.

Sabrina may have made it look easy, but Jessica Parker Kennedy has a message:

Being a teenage witch is a challenge!

I spoke to The Secret Circle star this week – Jessica plays Melissa, a close friend of Phoebe Tonkin’s Faye and member of the coven at the center of the series – and she made it clear that the core group will struggle with their supernatural side and, well, passing notes in class.

“It’s about a bunch of teenagers,” Parker said. “It’s a difficult time for anyone. You’re searching for who you are and, on top of that, you’re a witch??!?” [click to continue…]
